Hari Budha Magar, the first double amputee above the knee to climb Mount Everest, has returned to Kathmandu and is being celebrated by the Nepalese government officials as a national hero. Magar, who lost his legs in 2010 while serving with Britain’s Royal Gurkha Rifles in Afghanistan, states that he endured phantom pain during the climb. The Nepalese government had previously forbade double amputees from climbing the mountain, which motivated Magar to overturn the policy through the Supreme Court.
