A Californian man returned a library book that was a century overdue. Jim Perry returned the deteriorated and fraying 1892 copy of “A Family History of the United States” to St. Helena Public Library, roughly 20 miles west of Santa Rosa. The textbook was checked out by Perry’s wife’s family in 1927, which likely included her grandfather, who may have wanted the book to teach his two daughters about American history. The library may soon move the book to an archival box or give it to the local historical society for further preservation.
